Directions

From the north

1. Route I-87 (Northway) south to Exit 2W (Schenectady/Route 5 West)
2. Route 5 West 1.7 miles. Immediately after Wendy's, make a left onto Karner Road.
3. Follow Karner Road half a mile. New York State DMV Auto Theft Unit will be on your left just before Post Road.
4. Enter the building from the doorway located to the right of the garage bay doors.

From the New York State Thruway (Route 87 North and Route 90 East)

1. Thruway to Exit 24 (Montreal)
2. After paying the toll, bear right to the I-87 North ramp (Montreal / Albany Airport).
3. Route I-87 (Northway) North to Exit 2W (Schenectady / Route 5 West).
4. Route 5 West 1.7 miles. Immediately after Wendy's, make a left onto Karner Road.
5. Follow Karner Road half a mile. New York State DMV Auto Theft Unit will be on your left just before Post Road.
6. Enter the building from the doorway located to the right of the garage bay doors.

From the west on Route 5 

1. Route 5 East, immediately after McDonald's, make a right onto Karner Road.
2. Follow Karner Road half a mile. New York DMV Auto Theft Unit will be on your left just before Post Road.

From the west

1. Take I-95 N/Cross Bronx Expressway.
2. At exit 5A, take ramp right for Cross Bronx Expressway toward Westchester Ave/White Plains Rd.
3. Turn right onto White Plains Rd.
4. Turn left on Westchester Ave.
5. At the roundabout take 3rd exit.
6. Bear right on Waterbury Ave.

Directions

From the NYS Thruway

1. Route I-90 to Exit 53 (Niagara Falls/Buffalo)
2. After Exit 53, bear right and take the South Ogden/Dingens Street exit (Exit 1) to the traffic light.
3. Turn left at the traffic light onto Dingens Street. Go 1/10th mile to the Examination Facility on the right side of the street.

From the Niagara Falls area

1. Route I-190 past downtown Buffalo to Exit 1 (Ogden Street Exit)
2. At Exit, bear right onto South Ogden Street and go over the Thruway bridge to the traffic light.
3. Turn left at the traffic light onto Dingens Street. Go 1/10th mile to the Examination Facility on the right side of the street.

Directions

Via Long Island Expressway (LIE) from the west

1. Long Island Expressway to Exit 51 (NY-231)
2. Turn right onto NY-231 South (Deer Park Avenue).
3. In approximately 2.5 miles, turn left onto Long Island Avenue.
4. Continue one block on Long Island Avenue. The Examination Facility is on the left side.

Via Long Island Expressway (LIE) from the east

1. Long Island Expressway to Exit 53
2. Continue on Long Island Expressway North Service Road approximately 2 miles toward Commack Road.
3. Turn left onto Commack Road.
4. Continue on Commack Road for approximately 3 miles.
5. Turn right onto Long Island Avenue and continue for ½ mile. The Examination Facility is on the right side.

Via Southern State Parkway

1. Southern State Parkway to Exit 39N (NY-231 North)
2. Continue on NY-231 North for approximately ¾ mile and make a slight right onto Commack Road.
3. In 2/10th mile, turn left onto Carlls Path and continue for 1.5 miles.
4. Turn right onto Long Island Avenue. The Examination Facility is on the left side.

Via Sunrise Highway

1. Sunrise Highway to Exit 40 (NY-231)
2. NY-231 North for approximately 2 miles and make a slight right onto Commack Road.
3. In 2/10th mile, turn left onto Carlls Path and continue for 1.5 miles.
4. Turn right onto Long Island Avenue. The Examination Facility is on the left side.

Horseheads (Chemung County): Corning, Elmira, and Ithaca areas

Directions

1. Via I-86/Route 17 to Exit 52 (North) to Route 14.
2. Route 14 (North) to Village of Horseheads.
3. In the Village of Horseheads, turn right at West Broad Street.
4. Continue 3 blocks from West Broad Street to Thorne Street.
5. Turn right onto Thorne Street and continue about 1/10th mile to the Village Garage at 504 Thorne Street. The examination will take place at this facility.

Syracuse

1. Travel via Route I-81.
2. I-81 to Exit 28 (East Taft Road).
3. After exiting, go East on Taft Road to Taft Road Plaza. Follow signs to the Department of Motor Vehicles. Taft Road Plaza will be at the first traffic light after the I-81 exit.
4. Enter the Plaza. The Examination Facility is on the right side of the building complex. Follow signs.

Kirkwood (Broome County): Binghamton, NY, and Scranton, PA areas

1. Travel Via Route I-81.
2. I-81 to Exit 1 to Route 11 (Kirkwood).
3. At exit go north 1/10th mile on Route 11 to the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. The examination will take place at this facility.
4. Follow the signs to the examination building.

Directions

From the north or south:

1.  New York State Thruway (I-87) to Exit 18 (Poughkeepsie/New Paltz).
2. After the toll booth, turn right onto Route 299 East, toward Poughkeepsie.
3. Travel approximately 6 miles on NY Route 299 East to US Route 9W South.
4. Turn right onto US Route 9W South, and travel approximately 2/10ths of a mile to North Road.
5. Turn right onto North Road. The Examination Facility is a large red brick building on the right side of North Road, just to the left of the US Post Office.

From the east (Mid-Hudson Bridge):

1. Take the Mid-Hudson Bridge (US Route 44/NY Route 55) to US Route 9W North.
2. Merge right onto US Route 9W North.
3. Travel approximately 2.5 miles on US Route 9W North. Proceed past the intersection for NY Route 299 West to the turnaround for US Route 9W South.
4. Enter the turnaround for US Route 9W South and merge onto US Route 9W South.
5. Travel approximately 3/10ths of a mile on US Route 9W South to North Road.
6. Turn right onto North Road. The Examination Facility is a large red brick building on the right side of North Road, just to the left of the US Post Office.

1. I-90 to Exit 31 (Utica) to Genesee Street (south).
2. Continue on Genesee Street to South Street (by Firestone Dealer on left side of street)
3. Turn left onto South Street and go 4/10ths of a mile to the Examination Facility (on the left side of the street).

Canton (St. Lawrence County): Potsdam and Watertown Areas

1. Route 11 into the Village of Canton.
2. At Park Ave. in the Village of Canton, turn south/east (towards St. Lawrence University).
3. Continue on Park Avenue about 3/10ths mile to St. Lawrence Highway Garage. The examination will take place at this facility.
