Resources For You and Your Family
The New York State DMV wants to make driving as safe as possible.

As you grow older, it's only natural to want to continue driving for as long as you can do so safely. You can do many things to drive safely and watch for the warning signs that you might want to limit or stop driving - whether temporarily or permanently.

You might talk to your doctor, friends, and family to assess your current driving abilities. The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) makes available both classroom and online courses to help drivers improve their driving skills. The courses teach methods that can improve the ability of an older motorist to drive safely.

Tips for Medical Professionals

Whether to report an older driver whose driving skills are significantly impaired is a difficult decision for a medical professional. There can be a conflict between the need to protect confidentiality of your patient and your duty to protect public safety.
